What is compulsory purchase?
Compulsory purchase powers are provided to enable acquiring authorities to compulsorily purchase land to carry out a function which Parliament has decided is in the public interest. Gosport Borough Council will be using these powers for the Rowner project. The procedures and compensation terms are laid down by the government and detailed guidance for owners is available from the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
