What is Component Retesting and What is Its Status?
Since 1998, the SEDs Office of State Assessment has been working on the development of a Component Retesting System as part of an overall systemic program of prevention and intervention strategies for students who are at risk of not meeting the State learning standards. The first two component retests, Comprehensive English and Mathematics A, were administered for the first time in May 2001. Plans are underway for the development of component retests in social studies and the sciences. An informational series on component retesting will be distributed statewide and placed on the Departments website at www.emsc.nysed.gov/ciai/assess.html . This memorandum is numbered OSA-CR-001. These documents may be useful in defining component retesting and explaining the process of this assessment strategy. If you have any questions after reading this memorandum or future memoranda, please fax them to 518-474-1989 so they may be included in an upcoming Q and A document. What Is Component Retesting?
