What is “component-based”? What is a component?
Macromedia introduced components as a new feature to Macromedia Flash 5 and later upgraded it in Macromedia Flash MX (also known as Flash 6). They are similar, in many respects, to a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop or a macro for programs like Microsoft Word. Essentially a component allows you to make modifications to the game’s code without forcing you to actually delve into into the actual code. For example, with the component you can easily set how many pieces there will be in a puzzle game or how much time a player has to play a game or how many points they get when something happens. Components allow you to make most of the more common adjustments to the games in minutes or even seconds.
