What is compatible glass and why do we need to know?
• Glass and heat – what happens to the glass in the kiln at different temperatures? • Kiln preparation and good studio practice. • Confidence with firing schedules. • Trouble-shooting with examples of things to avoid. • All about sheet glass – thin, 3mm, iridescent, dichroic, textures. etc • Working with accessory glass – frits, powders, stringers and confetti. • Working with inclusions and embellishments – foils, fusible paper, glassline pens and making your own prefabricated components. • Beyond flat pieces – an overview of slumping. At the end of the two days, all students will have created reference samples of the different techniques presented. You will also make a piece which can be slumped or a decorative panel for hanging or framing.
