Compass calibration is the process used with PNI digital compasses to separate the earth’s magnetic field from stray magnetic fields emitted by your vehicle. Without calibration, a PNI digital compass regards the entire magnetic field as from the earth, including your vehicles magnetic field, resulting in inaccurate compass readings.
