What Is Common Ground Monterey County?
LandWatch has received a number of questions about Common Ground Monterey County, a newly created local group that is lobbying the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and other public agencies on land use policy and development issues. While it’s too early to know exactly where Common Ground stands on the issues, there are some good indications. Common Ground was formed immediately after release of the LandWatch report, “State of Monterey County, 1999.” The group’s board of directors includes mega-builder Kaufman and Broad, representatives of major real estate and construction companies based in Monterey County, a representative of the Cannery Row Company and the California Lodging Brokers, the head of the Carpenters’ Union, housing developers, an auto dealer, and several large agricultural land owners.
