What is commissioning?
The short answer is that commissioning is a Quality Assurance program. The historical dictionary definition is “to put a ship into service” as to commission a ship or in our case a building. The ASHRAE Commissioning Guideline 1-1999 defines it as, “the process of ensuring that systems are designed, installed, functionally tested, and capable of being operated and maintained to perform in conformity with the design intent.” We like to think of it simply as getting what you paid for.
