What is Comfrey Leaf?
Comfrey is a perennial herb with hairy broad leaves. It’s internal use is to be avoided, however externally the leaves help prevent infection and promote healing. What does Comfrey Leaf do? Comfrey leaf can be helpful after your baby is born if you have a perineal tear. It can encourage prompt healing while reducing pain and preventing infection. How do I do it? Comfrey leaf can be added to a sitz bath or used in a compress. Some sample comfrey leaf uses: Add four ounces of dried comfrey leaf to half a gallon of boiling water and steep for 8 hours. Used the liquid for sitz baths fifteen minutes twice a day. Combine 1/4 cup comfrey, 1/4 cup uva ursi, 1/4 cup chamomile and 1/4 cup shepherd’s purse with water. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. The liquid can be used for compresses or as a wash for the perineal area. Place a clean cloth and a handful of comfrey leaf in water and simmer for 15 minutes. Use compress on perineal area or for breast infections.
