Comfrey leaf can be helpful after your baby is born if you have a perineal tear. It can encourage prompt healing while reducing pain and preventing infection. How do I do it? Comfrey leaf can be added to a sitz bath or used in a compress. Some sample comfrey leaf uses: Add four ounces of dried comfrey leaf to half a gallon of boiling water and steep for 8 hours. Used the liquid for sitz baths fifteen minutes twice a day. Combine 1/4 cup comfrey, 1/4 cup uva ursi, 1/4 cup chamomile and 1/4 cup shepherd’s purse with water. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. The liquid can be used for compresses or as a wash for the perineal area. Place a clean cloth and a handful of comfrey leaf in water and simmer for 15 minutes. Use compress on perineal area or for breast infections.
