Comet Lulin is a comet that was discovered in 2007 by astronomers Ye Quanzhi and Lin Chi-Sheng at Lulin Observatory. (The comet is named after the observatory where it was first photographed). Its official designation is Comet C/2007 N3. Initially the object was thought to be an asteroid. As you can see by the picture (courtesy of Amateur astronomer Jack Newton from a backyard observatory in Arizona) it is a beautiful looking greenish blue ball of ice and gas. It will be passing closest to earth on February 24, 2009. You can see the comet in North America between the constellations of Virgo and Leo. Below is a map of where to look for it provided by Nasa.
