Colace goes under the generic name of Docusate. It has an emollient effect and is available in capsules, tablets, liquid and syrup form. Colace is an over-the-counter medication that is used to treat temporary constipation. It may also be recommended by your physician as a temporary treatment. Colace should be taken only on a short-term basis to allow return to normal bowel action.
