What is cognitive dissonance and give some examples?

0

Cognitive dissonance is basically a disagreement between one’s personal beliefs and one’s actions. For instance, say an adult is made to stand for a particular political candidate who believes in gay marriage. The adult, who for the sake of simplicity we’ll call Bob (I know, how redundant of me!), personally is against the idea of gay marriage. He is, however, made to stand for this candidate and support, even if only for show, the idea of gay marriage. This creates a state of tension between Bob’s actions and Bob’s feelings. This tension is called cognitive dissonance. So, Bob will be driven to do one of two things to get rid of the tension. He could either change his own personal beliefs, or refuse to stand for the candidate anymore because of the conflict. Hope I helped!
