What is coded squelch?
Coded squelch is a sub-audible tone that is transmitted over the radio wave. Only those radios that are set to the same tone will send that signal to the radio’s speaker. Other transmissions not carrying the tone are not sent to the speaker, eliminating unwanted transmissions from nearby users. Think of coded squelch operating like a garage door opener. Only those remote controls set to your door frequency will open your garage door. Note: Coded squelch does not prevent others from hearing your conversations!
