What is CNS doing to decrease fat, sodium and sugar in the foods served?

CNS understands parents’ concerns and we are continually striving to reduce fat, sodium and sugar in foods while still providing great tasting meals kids will eat. Here are some of the ways we are making our food healthier for students: • Menus feature entrees that contain lower fat ingredients such as reduced fat cheese and pepperoni in pizza products, chicken corn dogs, and turkey in sausages and sauces. • No electrolyte beverages are sold at middle schools or elementary schools commencing 2010-2011 school year. • Vegetables are prepared with no butter or salt. • Chicken nuggets, fish sticks, chicken patties and corn dogs are oven baked instead of deep fat fried. • Whole wheat or whole grain breads and hamburger buns are purchased when available and rolls are not brushed or served with butter. • Low fat milk (1%) is offered daily. • Light ranch dressing is offered with baby carrots. • All foods contain no artificial trans-fats.
