Clumping or scoopable litters utilize the “clumping” properties of sodium bentonite, a naturally derived special type of clay, to control litter box odors. This special type of clay uses the moisture it absorbs to bond soiled litter particles into clumps for easy removal and disposal. Litter boxes using clumping litters can be cleaned by removing only the soiled litter and sprinkling a new layer of clumping litter in the box.
