What is closed rhinoplasty?
A-There are two basic types of rhinoplasty – closed rhinoplasty and open rhinoplasty. For open rhinoplasty, incisions are made on both the inside and the outside of the nose. For closed rhinoplasty, however, incisions are confined to the inside of the nose, leaving no visible scars. In addition, any swelling you may experience tends to improve quicker, and you generally recover faster, than with open rhinoplasty. However, because there is a limited ability to see parts of the inside of the nose with closed rhinoplasty, the surgeon may be unable to achieve certain changes. Because of this decreased visibility of the inside of the nose, many surgeons prefer open rhinoplasty over closed rhinoplasty, particularly for more complicated cases.
