What is CIIs agenda for the PFS?
One item on the agenda is a little bombshell that seeks to amend the society’s rules to give the executive officers power to remove member-elected directors from the board. Call me old fashioned but I think the purpose of member elected non-execs is to keep the execs on the rails and to hold them to account if they go off them. It is a member’s right to use their vote as they see fit and should expect that right to be respected. If a member wants to vote for someone whose sole purpose is to be an awkward cuss, the executive directors need to accept that fact and if sufficient members hold a similar view live with the consequences. They are, after all, there to serve the membership, not to serve themselves. A few years ago, Sofa, as they then were, tabled a similar resolution. I was at the AGM that year and, on raising my concerns, those present saw the stupidity of the proposition and a way was found to withdraw the resolution from the agenda.
