What is Chrysanthemum Day in Japan?
Chrysanthemum Day (the 9th day of the 9th month) was started in 910 A.D. when the Japanese imperial court held it’s first Chrysanthemum show. The Japanese had first come across Chrysanthemums sometime between 400 and 500 A.D, but only in 910 A.D were they declared the national flower (they are still the symbol of the ruling family in Japan). Chrysanthemum day is one of the five aincent sacred festivals of Japan.
