What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the art and science of finding disruptions in the nervous system which have been caused by misalignment (subluxation) of the spinal vertebrae, and the realignment of these vertebrae to allow the body to heal itself and maintain a state of optimal health. Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts that is based upon the understanding that your good health depends, in part, upon a healthy nervous system. Your spine protects the spinal cord and nerve roots which extend from your brain down the spinal column through the movable bones of your spine and exit through a series of openings. The nerves then branch out and form a network throughout your body. Accidents, overexertion, even tension and stress (as well as numerous other reasons) can result in a “displacement” of the spinal column causing irritation to the spinal nerves. Doctors of Chiropractic call this displacement a Vertebral Subluxation. These subluxations are often the cause of problems in the human body. Chiro
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). “Chiropractic” comes from the Greek word chiropraktikos, meaning “effective treatment by hand.” Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body’s inability to adapt to its environment. It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body which is improperly aligned.
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism and that the nervous system is essential to all bodily processes, even stimulating your immune system. The nervous system is the driving force behind all life’s activities. Some examples of activities that are controlled by the nervous system include walking, food digestion, and disease defense. The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord and a network of nerves. The spinal cord is encased within 24 movable bones called vertebrae that protect the spinal cord. A network of nerves branch out from the spinal cord, then travel through spaces between the adjacent vertebrae to control and communicate with all muscles, blood vessels, organs and other tissues of the body. When two adjacent vertebrae become misaligned, the space between the vertebrae becomes constricted. Just as less water would flow through a hose that is partially kinked, fewer electrical impulses flow through t

Chiropractic is a natural healing art that developed from the research and clinical work done by Dr. D.D. Palmer in 1895, in Davenport, Iowa. Since then, Chiropractic has grown to the second largest primary healing art in the United States. Doctors of Chiropractic are now licensed in all 50 States and most Western Nations.
