What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. If your body is not self-regulating or self-healing system we must look to the nervous system. The nervous system directly or indirectly controls every function of your body. If the nervous system is impaired, it can cause malfunction of the tissues and organs throughout the body. Chiropractic is the science and art of locating interference to the nervous system and removing them so the body can function optimally and health be restored.
The word “chiropractic” comes from ancient Greek and means “done by hand.” Adjustment of the joints of the body has been used in health care for many centuries and is at the heart of modern chiropractic care. Chiropractors are specialists in manual adjustment of the vertebrae of the spine and other joints. Adjustment helps relieve pain and restore normal functioning to the spine, joints and supporting structures of the body – so you can enjoy your everyday activities again as quickly as possible. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise, provide nutritional counselling, and recommend rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies.
Chiropractic is a a primary contact branch of health care specializing in the diagnosis, treatment, and overall management of conditions which are due to : Mechanical dysfunction and injury of the soft tissues – joints (ligaments, cartilage) – muscles (myofasicial tissue) – tendons – discs (inter-vertebral disc) – and nerves. Chiropractors use either their hands or high tech instruments to manipulate/adjust the spine or extremities (shoulder, wrist, knee etc.), in order to restore or enhance function. Often the chiropractor will adapt the procedures to meet your specific needs.
