What is Chinese food like?

Chinese cuisine can vary depending on the location where it is served and the region in China from which it originates. Chinese food in America has evolved to suit local tastes, as it also has in other countries, such as India, Australia and parts of Europe. In America, the most popular types of Chinese food are influenced by cuisine from the Szechuan and Guangdong provinces, as well as Jiangsu and Shandong style cooking. Szechuan cuisine is usually spicy and heavy on garlic and chili, while Guangdong cuisine is widely popular outside China due to the large number of Cantonese immigrants. Shandong cuisine mainly consists of seafood and soups, while Jiangsu cuisine is almost never spicy, and tends toward the sweeter side.

A staple of all Chinese meals is rice, along with other flour-based staples such as noodles and steamed buns. Popular meats used in Chinese cooking are beef, chicken and pork. In the United States, American-influenced Chinese dishes have evolved, such as popular choices like fried rice, sweet and sour pork, egg rolls, and General Tso’s chicken. Another popular tradition in both China and the United States is dim sum, a family-style meal of small dishes, eaten usually at breakfast time. Popular dishes served are dumplings, turnip cakes, steamed buns, and braised vegetables. Dim sum is often accompanied by tea.

Chinese food doesn’t cost much. In big cities such as Beijing and Xi’an, there are both Chinese and western restaurants which offer delicious food with safety and English service guaranteed. It will be good idea going there to experience local cuisine culture. Therefore, generally speaking, we arrange lunch only except for characteristic dinner that can not be missed. No fixed dinner is listed in the tour schedule. Anyway, guides will give some suggestion and recommendation to satisfy your special request. And please be kindly noted that the price difference is surcharged. In other small cities, your lunch and dinner are arranged considering food safety. Breakfast is included in your hotel service. Most of the Chinese hotels above 3-star supply you with Chinese & western buffet breakfast, while in some hotels in small city, only Chinese breakfast is available.
