What is CHESS Sponsorship?

0

All shareholdings (with a very few exceptions) are recorded electronically. To facilitate electronic transfer of ownership of shares, the ASX developed a system called CHESS (Clearing House Electronic Sub-register System). Your ownership of shares is either recorded in CHESS (CHESS Sponsored), or in the listed company’s own sub-register (Issuer Sponsored). As the name implies, you require a Sponsor to have your holdings recorded under CHESS. This is typically your stockbroker, but can also be your margin lender.
