What is CGI Animation and How Does It Work?
Computer-generated Imagery (also known as “CGI”) animation is a technology that uses computer graphics to create specific 3D visual effects. Through this versatile medium digital artists are able to create a story or image that can come to life and speak in ways that realistic enactment at times cannot. There are several reasons that animators like Pixar prefer to use digital technology. First, CGI allows graphic artists to capture and manipulate almost any desired visual or audio effect. These digital images are also retained by the viewer for a longer period or time and with greater accuracy than realistic enactment. CGI is also capable of producing and recreating scenes which would otherwise be expensive or dangerous for actors. Examples include recreating airplane crashes, or re-constructing demolished buildings from a scene that no longer exists.
