What is certification?
Response: certification is a voluntary process, which is provided by a well organized organization, that through its qualified advisory boards, develops comprehensive and quality standards for the practice of a type of specialty. The developed standards address high quality requirements for the practice of a certain specialty. The defined standards speak to educational and/or practice requirements, any required prerequisites, and the need to adhere to a defined code of ethics for the practice specialty. Certification is a voluntary process. It is different than any type of licensing. Certification is one means by which professionals may be publicly recognized as achieving a high level of education, knowledge base and practice skills for a certain healthcare related specialty. Certification is the process through which we examine the ownership and control of businesses seeking designation as a disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE). All firms certified by CTA as a DBE will be deemed eligible as an Illinois Unified Certification Program (IL UCP) company. The IL UCP DBE designation provides for “one-stop-shopping” for DBE certification within the state of Illinois and is accepted by all USDOT recepients. The five (5) agencies within the IL UCP who issue DBE certifications are the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), City of Chicago, CTA, Metra and Pace.
Most schools will offer an examination that tests the student’s knowledge of the material taught in their course. Upon successful completion of this exam a Certificate or Diploma will be issued by the School attesting that the student has successfully met the requirements as laid down by that school. The only governmental recognition of Aromatherapy in North America is the occupational title designation granted to the BCAOA under the Societies Act of British Columbia.
