0

A. Central stenosis is a chokng of the central canal and again is usually located in the lumbar area. If it located slightly higher then it may be related to an overgrowth or redundancy of a ligament which is there to protect the dura.(read the Eastern perspective on this.)This overgrowth is caused by segmental instability usually from a degenerating disc between adjacent vertebrae. A bulging disc, bony protrusion or herniated disc can push the nerve away from the spinal canal and when this happens it is known as a ‘far’ lateral stenosis. Q. Is this a degenerative condition? A. Spinal stenosis is related to degeneration in the spine and usually will become significant in the 5th decade of life and extend throughout every subsequent age group. Most patients first visit their doctor with symptoms of spinal stenosis at about age 60 or so.
