What is CellML metadata for?
Metadata is data about data. CellML Metadata allows a modeller to annotate their model with information about its provenance their name and contact, the names and contacts of contributors, the citation if relevant, descriptions of the model, modification comments, information about the license under which the model is distributed. Elements of the model can also be associated with terms that describe the biological relevance of those elements. For example, a variable called ‘A’ representing the concentration of ATP might be annotated with terms asserting that the variable represents a concentration, of a small molecule species, which has the chemical name ‘adenosine triphosphate.’ CellML Metadata can also inform tools how best to simulate a model and graph the results of the simulation.
