What is CCV?

CCV stands for Card Code Verification. The Card Code value is a three-digit security code that is printed in reverse italics at the top of the signature panel on the back of credit cards (on the front for American Express). This value can be submitted to the payment gateway and verified by the card issuing bank to provide merchants with an extra measure of security against credit card fraud.
