What is causing my hips to hurt?

No one can say for sure what the problem is except a Dr., but a common cause of hip pain during pregnancy is compression on the sciatic nerve. Because of the extra weight of your uterus (and baby), the way your posture changes while you are pregnant (swayed back), and the hormones that loosen the joints in your pelvis, is it common for your sciatic nerve to get compressed. I had this problem while I was pregnant. My right hip hurt all the time the last two months, and when I put pressure on my right leg while walking, a sharp pain ran from my butt down below my knee. The Dr. suggested rest and propping up the leg/hip to relieve pressure on it. I was still working, so I had to take frequent breaks. Since the pregnancy (also in 2004) I still have issues if I put a lot a stress on that hip or after working out. You might want to make an appt with your Dr. just to have it checked out and make sure nothing else is going on. Hope that helps and good luck relieving your pain!
