Catharsis means ‘cleaning the system of all impurities.’ The catharsis to which you are referring is a ‘psychic’ or psychological cleansing … and this can be done in many different ways, most frequently with a psychologist or psychiatrist helping. Some use hypnosis openly, some use ‘hidden hypnosis’ (the patients are not aware they are being hypnotized). This is very similar to the ‘idea’ in Dianetics, which is actually formed using many commonly accepted psychological ‘ideas and tools’ but used in a different way. Catharsis can be very helpful, because the ‘cleaning’ or ‘cleansing’ leaves the person ‘free’ of the past, the ‘baggage’ that so many of us carry through life. I will not tell you ‘how’ this is done, because it is not something you can or should attempt to do on your own. If you feel that you need to be ‘cleansed’ then you need to find a psychologist who is willing to work with you. A catharsis can happen very quickly (one session) or can take weeks or months.
