Grade C or above What does the exam test? • Speaking Candidates are examined in pairs by two external examiners. They must be able to show inter-actional, social, negotiation and collaboration skills. • Writing The 2 hour paper consists of 2 tasks, each of approx. 250 words. They are non-specialist writing tasks in response to text taken from leaflets, articles, formal and informal letters etc. Candidates must respond appropriately in writing to the audience and purpose. • Reading (1 hr 15 mins) Candidates are assessed on their ability to understand texts taken from magazines, newspapers, leaflets, etc. They should demonstrate a wide range of reading skills including scanning, skimming, deduction of meaning from context and selection of relevant information. • Use of English (1 hr 30 mins) Six tasks test the ability to apply knowledge of English.
