What is Carbonized Bamboo Flooring?
Bamboo can be stained like regular wood, but many manufacturers choose to carbonize the bamboo to change its color. The bamboo is steamed at an extremely high temperature (boiling). This actually caramelizes the bamboo, and the resulting shade is dependent on how long the process is done. Another result is the bamboo becoming softer (only about 5%), but the finishes offered more than compensate for any change in its hardness.
