What is canine detection?
When somebody says “canine detection”, your first thought might be “mean drug dogs” or “drug sniffing dogs”. But that’s misleading and only part of the picture. The truth is that most drug-sniffing dogs are not mean at all. They’re actually very gentle and mild mannered Golden and Labrador retrievers. These k9 detection dogs love kids and they love people. They’ve simply been trained for weapons, contraband, narcotic drugs, abused medication, beverage alcohol, and firearms detection-to assist in creating drug free workplaces and bolstering safety in schools. There are also k9 detection dogs that are specially trained to sniff for explosives. Another misconception is that drug sniffing dogs go up to people and bother them. The real truth is that these dogs are trained to just sniff lockers, classrooms, parking lots and any other locations within a school or business.
