What is Caller ID?
Caller Identification or “Caller ID” acts like an electronic peephole. It allows a person receiving a phone call to see who is calling before answering the phone. A caller s number and/or name is displayed either on your phone (if your phone has this feature) or on a display unit that you must buy separately. The number and/or name will appear on the display unit or on your phone after the first ring. As the caller, this service lets you identify yourself to the person you are calling. Caller ID is an optional service offered by telephone companies for an additional monthly fee. (Fees vary by phone company.) You can call your local telephone service provider to find out what this fee is or to obtain additional information about Caller ID. Since the time that Caller ID was first made available, it has been expanded to offer Caller ID on Call Waiting (CIDCW) as well. With CIDCW the call waiting tone is heard and the identification of the second call is seen on the display unit.
With Caller ID, the incoming caller's telephone number and name (if available) are displayed on your Caller ID unit or Caller ID-equipped phone before you answer. With PhoneFusion One, callers state their name when they call, so you know the name and number of the person who is calling. Caller ID is always on. It is a standard feature through PhoneFusion One service.
Caller ID lets you know who’s calling even before you pick up the phone. This service allows you to see the date, time, name and phone number of direct-dialed local and long distance calls before you answer the telephone. Caller ID reveals this information in a special display unit that attaches to your telephone or on a specially designed phone that has the display built in. The memory in the display unit is programmed to store the name and number, as well as the date and time of the call. This way if you’re not home or don’t want to answer the phone, the stored numbers will permit you to return calls. However, if the calling party’s number is blocked, their name and number will not be displayed or stored by the Caller ID device.
