What is burst free memory protection?
Many companies claim that they give you “burst” memory with their Virtuozzo VPSs / VEs. But in actuality this is a horrible way of giving users stability and is a very common way to oversell their services. Having this burst memory on a VPS usually results in corruption (especially database corruption) of data. Some good question that you should ask any provider saying they have burs” is “How long can I burst for?”, “How graceful is the stoppage of the memory allocation?”, “Can I recover my data that is lost when this memory is re-allocated?” If a user does do burstable memory with SLM (the better memory management) with Virtuozzo that is also very dangerous as VPS is allowed to use more memory for short period of time – about 15 seconds and then should free this extra memory. If memory is not not freed by VPS, then SLM will start to force processes to free memory and if unsucessful – to kill processes. Quote from a SWSoft Virtuozzo developer: “For example, if you have some process, sa
