What is “bumping” and do I need “bump-resistant” locks?

This technique, in various forms, has been used forever, especially by locksmiths. However, we usually “pick” locks open. Personally, I beleive that this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Associations and trade groups are telling locksmiths to take advantage of the panic being caused by the “bumping” question. Since people are worried, locksmiths are pushing “bump-resistant” locks.
