What is Brunswick County’s biggest town?
Leland’s population has come to surpass those of all other towns in spacious Brunswick County. A 2008 state estimate put it at about 10,000 people. The population of the town, incorporated in 1989, grew exponentially in the 2000s, when sewer service allowed for unprecedented growth. It then began to attract big developments, mega-retailers, banks, clinics, entertainment venues and ethnic restaurants and stores. Leland’s concentration of Hispanics is among the county’s largest. The town, which once had a lot more mobile home parks, is now home to big, upscale subdivisions such as Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Brunswick Forest, Mallory Creek and Westport. Although new neighborhoods seem to be popping up almost overnight on N.C. 133, the center of the new growth is the U.S. 17 business corridor.
