What is Brimbank doing to stop residents from putting things in recycling and green waste bins that don belong?
Bin inspectors work for Brimbank Council. Their role is to do regular and random recycling and green waste bin audits. They speak with residents to ensure that they understand the things that do and do not belong in each bin. When the bin inspectors come across a recycling bin which is contaminated, they place a ‘contaminated bin’ sticker on it, to remind the resident that bins with contamination in them will not be emptied. A warning letter is sent to residents who put items in their bins that do not belong there. It is accompanied by an information sheet that shows items that can and cannot be put into recycling and green waste bins. Brimbank residents can be fined for continuing to put unacceptable items in their recycling or green waste bin.
