What Is Brigadoon?
Brigadoon tells a story of an old Scottish town about two-hundred fifty years ago. At that point in time, there was an old minister in the church who saw that his time on Earth was going to be very short. Because there was a great threat of witchcraft, he prayed for God to protect Brigadoon from this influence. That protection involved the ascent of Brigadoon into the highland mist. That agreement with God would allow the community to fall asleep, and when they awoke, it would be one-hundred years later. So, literally the inhabitants of that small village would live forever; however, because of this agreement — none of them would ever be able to leave because that would break the agreement whereby, Brigadoon would disappear forever. Two American travelers, Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson), become lost and stumble into Brigadoon during its one day visit to Earth.
