Basic Rate Interface (BRI) is the Basic ISDN line available. Typically it provides Two Bearer Channels (B channels) with a capacity of 64Kbps each and a D channel with 16Kbps. The B channels are used to carry the Data /voice/fax between the two subscribers whereas the D channel is used primarily for the administration of the Data channel like Call setup, Control and Termination.
