what is brain edema, and whats it caused from anyone know?
To answer your question, it’s important to understand the basic anatomy of the brain. Your brain contains nerves and blood vessels. It is surrounded by a small amount of fluid (cerebrospinal fluid, or CSF). The brain tissue and CSF is contained inside the skull. In case of injury, damaged cells begin to leak fluid and important proteins into surrounding tissue. If the fluid stays in the tissue and NOT the CSF, this is called brain edema (swelling). Brain edema can be caused by many things, including trauma (e.g. accidents, violence), infections, drugs, lack of oxygen/blood (e.g. stroke), metabolic disorders (e.g. uncontrolled diabetes) and more.
