What is BOTOX® Cosmetic and how does it work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a nonsurgical, physician–administered aesthetic treatment for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. The treatment involves small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic administered via tiny injections directly into the underlying muscles between the brows to temporarily reduce the muscle activity that causes frown lines (which often look like an “11”) by blocking nerve impulses that trigger wrinkle-causing muscle contractions, creating a smooth appearance.
