What is boot camp training?
Boot camps, usually led by a fitness instructor or personal trainer, take military training methods and use them on the average person who wants to improve their fitness, tone up, lose weight, boost energy levels and perhaps best of all, look better than they did previously. Most boot camps combine cardiovascular exercise (things like running and star-jumps) with resistance training (push-ups, lunges, squats) in a group setting roughly three times a week. Like most things, the trend started in the US and its popularity has since spread to our shores. Gavin Walsh, a fitness instructor who runs The Boot Camp in London, says: “I started running my boot camp sessions having followed the fitness trend in the United States in 2005. They’re always ahead of us with things like this so I started checking out some websites to see what it was they were offering. One thing I noticed was a big surge in the popularity of boot camps.
