I just want to add to the imprinting that Liberservetive has already talked about. I worked at a bird of prey rehabilitation center. I was one of only two employees and imprinting was a big topic for us. This is another bird scenario but again it can happen to many animals. If we got a young bird, not necessarily a bird that has just hatched, and we don’t take precautions that bird may become imprinted. If we were hand feeding the bird we would sometimes hide behind a curtain etc. Some exposure is ok but not a lot. This is what I use to tell the school aged children when they would come to the center. If we directly feed the baby bird, clean it, talk to it, etc. it will start to think that it is a human or we are all (insert animal). Plain and simple the bird thinks that it is a human. We had a number of birds who had to permanently live at the center because of imprinting. It is considered a mental injury.
