What is Bohemian Rhapsody about?
Someone from Belgium asked me this some time ago. I have to say that Freddie always hated explaining his songs, and that he, like the rest of the band, felt that people should create their own images, stories and feelings about them. But ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ isn’t really that hard to understand. In fact it’s about someone who has commited a crime and has to go to a trial for that. In the first bit the person is in some sort of prison and asks himself what is going to become of him. (‘No escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see. I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy’). Then he tells his mother what he has done and he understands that he has made a terrible mistake. (‘Mama, life has just begun, but now I’ve gone and thrown it all away’). Now comes the second part, He has to go to the jury (‘Send shivers down my spine, body’s aching all the time (…) Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth’). Some time after this he is standing in front of this jury. This
