What is Body-weight Strength Training (BST)?
BST (Body-weight Strength Training) is a combination of gymnastics and military fitness drawn from the Army Rangers and Marine Corps and exercise movements of gymnasts built into a workout program. BST is tougher in scope, shorter in duration and allows for the body to recover faster from each workout. BST is not new … it has been known for years under terms such as “urbanastics”, “urban fitness” and “street fitness”. In fact, many of the break dancers from the 1980’s pioneered many of the different movements within the street fitness community. We decided that BST should be more mainstream with evidence of this central to the formation of the U.S. Body-weight Strength Training (BST) Association (USBSTA) and eventual certification for BST Instructors.
