Body fat percent is the term used to denote the percentage of the entire body that consists of, or is, fat. For example, if you weighed 200 lbs. and your body fat was estimated to be 10%, 20lbs of your total weight would exist as fat. As far as how much is “too much body fat,” experts recommend that men stay below 18% total body fat. For women, it is generally accepted that the percentage of body fat be 23% or less. The higher the body fat percentage, the greater the risk for developing serious disease conditions.
