What is blood dialysis?
Dialysis is a life-support procedure that is initiated when the kidneys fail to do their job. It is a treatment for people in the later stage of chronic renal insufficiency (kidney failure). This treatment cleans the blood and removes waste and excess water from the body; in other words, it is the removal of water (called ultrafiltration) and/or waste products (called clearance) using an artificial kidney (dialysis filter). Normally, healthy kidneys do this work to keep you in good health. When is Dialysis required? Dialysis may only be needed during advanced stages of chronic kidney disease.
