What is BLM doing to protect sage-grouse in the Powder River Basin?
Due to limited public land surface ownership in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming BLM encourages CBNG companies to treat their evaporation ponds with larvicides where there are split estate issues. Industry response to treating evaporation ponds is variable by company. What about sage-grouse in other areas of the state? Outside the Powder River Basin monitoring efforts by Wyoming BLM and other agencies have shown that WNV hasn’t had as great of impact on other sage-grouse populations. Wyoming BLM provided funding and manpower to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to sample sage-grouse habitat in areas outside the Powder River Basin. Results suggest that sage-grouse populations at higher evaluations may not be as susceptible to WNV. How is BLM dealing with the WNV and sage-grouse issue?
