What is Bleeding Kansas?
“Bleeding Kansas” was a nickname given to Kansas prior to the United States’ Civil War due to the conflicts between pro-slavery and anti-slavery groups. While these conflicts started out as intimidation and vandalism, they eventually escalated into the bloodshed that gave Kansas its unfortunate nickname.
