What is Blastomycosis North American ?
Blastomycosis (blas-to-my-co-sis) is a rare chronic, granulomatous, multi-system skin infection caused due to the fungus called blastomyces dermatitidis usually found in the wood and soil. It brings skin and respiratory infection and also affects the organs such as lungs, bones. It can also lead to fever, cough, difficulty in breathing and chills. It was discovered by Gilchrist in 18941 and 1896. It commonly affects the males of age 30 to 50 years who come into contact with soil and wood. Other names for Blastomycosis are Gilchrist’s Disease, North American Blastomycosis, Chicago Disease.
