What is blade-free iLASIK (IntraLase)?

Dr. Jay is proud to be one of the first doctors in Milwaukee to provide “no-blade” LASIK. LASIK vision correction is a two step process. In the first step, we create a micro-thin flap of tissue on the outer layer of your eye called a “corneal flap.” This flap is very important. If it is too thick, too thin or misshapen it can affect the outcome of your procedure. In the last few years, LASIK is proven to be one of the safest and most effective refractive procedures available. Complications are extremely rare. However, when they did occur it usually involved the formation of the corneal flap. In traditional LASIK, this step requires the use of a metal microkeratome blade which makes a blind pass over the surface of the eye. On occasion, once this blade is lifted, the flap is found to be offset or irregular in shape which affects the vision afterwards. Fortunately, there is no longer a need for a metal blade in LASIK eye surgery. With the new IntraLase laser offered at Lakeshore Eye Care
